What Crestline does to a car
Crestline is coniferous forest from about 3,000 feet up, so pine pitch is the dominant paint problem — it drips, it sets hard, and it is the single most difficult thing to get off a clear coat without marking it. Needles and cones pile in cowls and roof channels and hold moisture against the paint. In winter the county plows at two inches and spreads cinders on primary roads, and Caltrans runs salt brine, sand and cinders on the 18 and the 138, all of which gets thrown at parked and moving cars. Crestline Village water is soft by our standards at about 5.4 grains per gallon, so spotting is the least of it up here. The Old Fire burned 91,281 acres and 1,003 structures across these communities in 2003.
The nearest proper detail shop is down the hill, which means an hour each way and a car that picks up cinders and pitch again on the drive back. San Bernardino County's stormwater exemption covers non-commercial washing only, and specifically excludes engine degreasing. We come to you with our own water and power and work on the driveway or the parking pad.

If chain controls go up or the 18 closes, we'll reschedule rather than risk it. Snow season is also the wrong time for a full exterior detail — the cinders come straight back. Late spring through fall is the sensible window for exterior work, with interiors any time.
Yes, if it's softened first. Pitch that's scrubbed or picked off takes clear coat with it. We soften it, lift it, then check the panel — if it has been sitting a season it has usually left a ring that needs polishing out.
