What Garden Grove does to a car
Garden Grove blends mostly local groundwater from nine wells with imported MWD supply, and the two are not the same water. The 2026 Water Quality Report puts the groundwater at 18 grains per gallon (303 ppm, range 187 to 346) and the imported supply at 14 grains (236 ppm). The groundwater number has not moved in three years of reports. Rainfall normals at John Wayne Airport run 13.33 inches a year, and May through September together total six-tenths of an inch, which is five months in which nothing rinses road film off a car. The 22 crosses the city with full-access interchanges at Garden Grove Boulevard and Haster, Harbor, Euclid, Brookhurst, Magnolia, Beach, Knott and Valley View. Shade is thinnest exactly where the traffic is heaviest: the city's urban forest plan measures canopy at 1.8 percent over the Heavy Commercial zone and 6.7 percent along the Harbor Corridor, against 13.7 percent at the Civic Center. Crape myrtle is the most common street tree in the city at 13.6 percent of the inventory, with Brisbane box at 9.2 and carrotwood at 8.2.
Garden Grove Municipal Code 14.40.025(E) permanently prohibits washing a vehicle with a hose except by hand-held bucket or a hose fitted with a positive self-closing shut-off device. That one is always in force, not a drought measure. The illicit-discharge ordinance in Chapter 6.40 exempts only noncommercial vehicle washing, and 6.40.040 reaches a person's agents, employees and contractors as well as the person. Separately, the city has been in Stage 2 Mandatory Conservation since June 14, 2022 and was still in it as of September 2026, which limits vehicle washing to Tuesdays and Saturdays between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am. We bring our own water from our Monrovia shop rather than drawing on a Garden Grove tap, we bring our own power, and we work on private property.
Either way the fix is the same. We bring the wash to the car.

It may, and we would rather raise it than have you find out afterwards. The city declared Stage 2 Mandatory Conservation on June 14, 2022 and it was still in force as of September 2026. Stage 2 limits washing vehicles to Tuesdays and Saturdays, 6:00 pm to 6:00 am. We bring our own water from Monrovia rather than using your tap, and the city has not published guidance on how the stage applies to an operator working that way. If you would rather we worked inside the Tuesday or Saturday window, say so when you book and we will schedule it there. The permanent rule, a bucket or a positive shut-off nozzle under Code 14.40.025(E), we meet either way.
Most likely crape myrtle. It is the single most common street tree in Garden Grove at 13.6 percent of the city's inventory, and in summer it drops a fine sticky honeydew that bakes onto a hot panel. Carrotwood, another 8.2 percent of the inventory, drops berries that stain. Neither comes off with a normal wash; both need the right solvent and often a clay bar afterwards.
