What Silver Lake does to a car
Two things wreck paint here. The jacarandas and ficus along Sunset, Hyperion and Rowena drip aphid honeydew from late May through June — it isn't sap, it's stickier, and it etches clear coat once it bakes on. And the reservoir draws waterfowl year-round, so cars along Silver Lake Boulevard and West Silver Lake Drive collect droppings that turn acidic fast in the sun.
Most Silver Lake blocks are permit parking, and the hillside streets off Micheltorena and Effie are too narrow to give up a space over. The apartment buildings along Sunset and Glendale have subterranean garages with no hose bib. Between the two, a lot of people here have nowhere to wash a car — so we bring the water, the power and the gear to wherever it's parked.

Depends how long it's been sitting. Fresh honeydew comes off during a normal exterior detail. If it's been baking since May it needs a solvent treatment and a clay bar first, which adds about an hour. Booking earlier in the season costs you less.
