What Silver Lake does to a car

The jacarandas and ficus along Sunset, Hyperion and Rowena drip aphid honeydew from late May through June — it isn't sap, it's stickier, and it etches clear coat once it bakes on. And the reservoir draws waterfowl year-round, so cars along Silver Lake Boulevard and West Silver Lake Drive collect droppings that turn acidic fast in the sun.
Most Silver Lake blocks are permit parking, and the hillside streets off Micheltorena and Effie are too narrow to give up a space over. The apartment buildings along Sunset and Glendale have subterranean garages with no hose bib.
